Dr. George Rozelle, the owner of MindSpa, joined a panel of experts in Chicago last week to report the preliminary findings of a study of former NFL players dealing with the consequences of repetitive brain trauma. The venue was the annual meeting of the Association of Applied Psychophysiology & Biofeedback (AAPB).
The team of researchers has been studying the use of Neurofeedback and Biofeedback to help patients improve cognitive functioning and emotional regulation. The panel found that a series of 20 neurofeedback treatments helped reduce the symptoms of participants in the multi-year study. The positive results continued for two-years following treatments.
The presentation included testimony from Joe DeLamielleure, a Hall of Fame NFL player, and his wife Gerril. Mr. DeLamielleure played for the Buffalo Bills and Cleveland Browns. He was also an All-American player at Michigan State before joining the NFL in 1973.
Future studies will examine a more comprehensive treatment protocol. The AAPB is an international society for mind-body research, health care, and education.
